The solo bottleneck

Manual timers get abandoned; then invoices are guesses.

This guide is part of a free series: 50 useful automations for people running the business alone. Download the printable PDF anytime: Free PDF — Track billable time without the timer guilt trip.

Stack that stays small

Toggl/Harvest + calendar reality check.

Tools named here: Toggl, Harvest, Notion. Prefer official docs and native features before adding another SaaS.

Ship the automation

Create projects per client in Toggl or Harvest.

Log time in 25–50 minute blocks, not per keystroke.

Evening: match calendar meetings to entries in 5 minutes.

Weekly report → invoice line items automatically where possible.

Keep it honest

If you hate timers, estimate from calendar and adjust — still better than fiction.

Automations should reduce decisions and errors — not hide broken processes. If a Zap fails weekly, fix the process or delete the Zap.
