The solo bottleneck

Clients should not be your monitoring product.

This guide is part of a free series: 50 useful automations for people running the business alone. Download the printable PDF anytime: Free PDF — Know your site is down before a client tells you.

Stack that stays small

Uptime monitor + phone push + status page optional.

Tools named here: UptimeRobot, Better Stack, Pushover. Prefer official docs and native features before adding another SaaS.

Ship the automation

Monitor homepage + checkout/API health endpoints every 5 minutes.

Alert to phone for downtime; email is too slow.

Mute planned deploys so you do not train yourself to ignore alerts.

Keep a one-page runbook: DNS, host, rollback.

Keep it honest

Alert fatigue is real. Only wake up for customer-visible failures.

Automations should reduce decisions and errors — not hide broken processes. If a Zap fails weekly, fix the process or delete the Zap.
