How this board works

Viral 50

Viral 50 is Rule The Internet's editorial ranking of websites receiving unusual attention across the web. Rankings consider public signals such as community discussion, launches, search interest, and momentum. It is not an audited traffic ranking.

The automatic pass reads public Hacker News stories, the public Lobsters hottest feed, and, when it responds, GitHub repositories that link to their own website. Perennial giants such as Google, YouTube, and Amazon are left off this board so a single thread does not crown a website that already rules the other list. Scores are discussion signals. They are not visitors.

If those sources cannot fill a honest list, the last published ranking stays up. We do not invent websites to reach 50. Commentary is editorial. You can override any line in data/viral/editorial.json or edit data/viral/current.json directly.

Internet Giants

Internet Giants is a destination list ordered from the public Tranco ranking, which combines CrUX, Farsight, Majestic, Cloudflare Radar, and Cisco Umbrella. CDNs, DNS, ad networks, and parked infrastructure are excluded. twitter.com and x.com are listed once. The page shows ranking position only. Monthly visit numbers are not published because this source does not provide ones we are willing to repeat.

What we will not do

No fake visitor counts. No private analytics. No claim that a ranking is scientific when the inputs are public arguments and a research list. The crown is a metaphor. It is not ownership of the internet.
